| Abstract: | Using the structure of Earth's interior from a chemical, temperature, and pressure perspective, students can learn about phase changes that occur as we go from the crust to the core. Using hands-on assembly of molecular structure, students will build two native elements of carbon: diamond and graphite, then think about the differences they can see in the geometry of the individual carbons that make up the minerals. This lesson is meant for use in high school chemistry classrooms to increase the exposure of students to Earth Science topics while using NGSS performance expectations for chemistry.
