| Abstract: | As higher education institutions rediscover the importance of collaboration as a means of advancing their shared missions, providing high-quality programs, and containing the costs of education, academic library consortia provide an exemplar of cross-institutional collaboration. Within the Pacific Northwest, the Orbis Cascade Alliance demonstrates that an intentional focus on regional impact and organizational sustainability can serve the needs of diverse member institutions—ranging from community colleges to large research universities. From its origins in developing regional union catalogs and resource sharing systems, the Alliance's strategy of seeking shared benefit across difference continues to strengthen library and higher education community in the Northwest and sustain programs at scale that extend members' capacity to serve their institutional communities.
