Abstract: This study investigates the development of data-savvy librarians for effective research data management (RDM) in the era of data science. A questionnaire was used to collect data from librarians in public higher educational institutions in Ekiti, Ondo, and Osun States, Nigeria for the descriptive study in 2020. Descriptive statistical tools were used to analyze the data collected. It was found that the extent of RDM service among data librarians is low. A moderate extent of the skills gap and a high extent of the management gap in data science were found among the librarians. The study found mentoring, industry experience, and workshop and seminar attendance as the approaches to developing data-savvy librarians. It was recommended that there should be institutional arrangements to send librarians to conferences, workshops, and data-savvy training to improve the proficiencies of the librarians in RDM.
