Abstract: The article focuses on the impact of skin temperature on the accuracy of skeletal muscle mass (SMM) measurements in collegiate athletes using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The study involved 148 athletes and highlighted that skin temperature differed significantly between male and female participants, with males averaging 97.08°F and females 96.94°F. The findings indicated a strong correlation between SMM and lean body mass (LBM) for both sexes, suggesting that while skin temperature can influence measurement error, adherence to strict testing protocols can mitigate this effect.
