Abstract: This study explored the perceptions and experiences of children with obesity and their parents regarding childhood obesity based on the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills model. This qualitative study used focus group interviews with 20 participants (10 children with obesity or overweight, and 10 of their parents) to explore their information, motivation, and behavioral skills regarding childhood obesity. Participants displayed significant knowledge gaps regarding the causes and consequences of childhood obesity, necessitating accurate information dissemination. Motivations for addressing obesity individual motivations, such as health concerns, appearance, self-esteem, and social motivations encompassing personal experiences, peer influence, family dynamics, and the importance of positive role models. Parents and children demonstrated various behavioral skills to combat obesity, including portion control and engagement in physical activities. However, failures at both individual and environmental levels were identified, highlighting challenges in maintaining healthy habits. Addressing these challenges through tailored strategies and supportive environments is crucial for effective obesity management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
