Abstract: Successful teaching of graduate students in this complex world requires a transformation in how we approach content, class structure, and most importantly, student experience. Cultivating graduate student designers in instructional design compelled us to create a studio environment focusing on the moments of use, emphasizing specific moments where context is scaled back to what is needed in a situation or moment, for designers and clients to flourish. This required students to forget about traditional course structure and requirements. We replaced the words 'class' with 'studio', and 'assignments' with 'experiences'. We removed lectures and instead created design jams and design critiques. The approach to our transformation was contextual. We looked at the impact of the design studio environment on graduate students' ability to design. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
