Abstract: Active learning using the mnemonic techniques Libesala and Lisedula can aid students in memorizing the concept of parallel circuits (two paths), and the combination of these techniques can enhance understanding of basic electric circuit concepts in the primary school science curriculum. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using mnemonic techniques in enhancing Year 5 students’ memory and understanding of electric circuits, particularly series and parallel circuits. This study was conducted at SK Merotai Besar, Tawau, Sabah, involving 30 Year 5 students as the sample. The research design used an action research approach with four data collection methods: pre-and post-tests, observation notes, interviews, and worksheet analysis. The results show a significant improvement in students’ performance after the intervention, with higher post-test scores. Observation data and interviews confirm the effectiveness of this technique in increasing students’ interest in Science. Interactive and practical activities in active learning also contributed to student engagement. This study demonstrates that the combination of mnemonics and active learning can help students understand abstract concepts, thereby improving academic performance, especially in rural areas. The implications of this study show that mnemonic techniques are highly suitable for teaching abstract and challenging concepts in Science at the primary school level. These techniques enhance students’ retention of knowledge, facilitate the understanding of complex concepts, and enrich the learning experience interactively, particularly in rural areas with limited educational resources.
