| Abstract (English): | This study aims to examine whether the characters in five fairy tale books, randomly selected from the works of Aytül Akal, who has contributed to the field of children's literature for over thirty years, were constructed in accordance with the fundamental principles of children's literature. The research was conducted using document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, and the data obtained were analyzed through descriptive analysis. The findings revealed that the characters in the examined works were not assigned specific names, that the narratives were generally constructed around a limited number of characters, and that protagonists were designed as open-dynamic, whereas secondary characters were portrayed as closed-static. It was also determined that dynamic characters underwent convincing and positive changes in line with the events they experienced, and that personified animate and inanimate entities were frequently employed. In addition, more than one method of character development was identified; characters played an active role in transmitting positive universal values; and child or juvenile characters were preferred more often than adult ones. However, it was also observed that information regarding the developmental level of most characters was not provided; all protagonists were selected from among child or juvenile characters; the majority of characters had no specified gender; and among those whose gender was explicitly stated, only one reinforced stereotypical gender roles. Overall, the results indicated that the characters in Çikolata Çocuk, Geceyi Unutan Fil, Uyumak İstemeyen Zürafa, and Üç Sihirli Öpücük were fully consistent with the fundamental principles of children's literature, whereas those in Dağınık Çocuk diverged from these principles in certain respects. | Abstract (Turkish): | Bu araştırma; otuz yılı aşkın süredir çocuk edebiyatı alanında eserler veren Aytül Akal'ın rastlantısal yolla seçilen beş masal kitabındaki karakterlerin, çocuk edebiyatının temel ilkelerine uygun olarak kurgulanıp kurgulanmadığını belirlemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman incelemesiyle yürütülmüş, elde edilen veriler betimsel analizle çözümlenmiştir. İncelenen eserlerde karakterlere özel adların verilmediği, anlatının genellikle sınırlı sayıda karakter üzerinden kurgulandığı ve başkişilerin açık-devingen, yan kişilerin ise kapalı-durağan özellikler taşıyacak şekilde oluşturulduğu tespit edilmiştir. Devingen karakterlerin yaşanan olaylar doğrultusunda inandırıcı ve olumlu yönde bir değişim geçirdikleri; kişileştirilmiş canlı ve cansız varlıklara yaygın biçimde yer verildiği görülmüştür. Ayrıca, birden fazla karakter geliştirme yolundan yararlanıldığı; karakterlerin olumlu evrensel değerlerin aktarımında etkin rol üstlendikleri; çocuk ve yavru karakterlerin yetişkinlere kıyasla daha çok tercih edildiği belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte, çoğu karakterin gelişim düzeyine ilişkin bilgiye yer verilmediği; tüm başkişilerin çocuk veya yavru karakterlerden seçildiği; karakterlerin büyük çoğunluğunun cinsiyetinin belirtilmediği, cinsiyeti açıkça ifade edilen karakterlerden yalnızca birinin kalıplaşmış toplumsal cinsiyet rollerini desteklediği saptanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular bir bütün olarak değerlendirildiğinde Çikolata Çocuk, Geceyi Unutan Fil, Uyumak İstemeyen Zürafa ve Üç Sihirli Öpücük adlı masallardaki karakterlerin çocuk edebiyatının temel ilkeleriyle tamamen örtüştüğü; buna karşılık Dağınık Çocuk'ta yer alan karakterlerin ise bazı açılardan bu ilkelerle çeliştiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
