Abstract (English): This article examines the Argentine teaching profession between 1880 and 1930 through the lens of school aesthetics, focusing on physical appearance, clothing, and manners, and delving into the ways in which beauty was attributed to female primary school teachers. To account for the regulatory operations imposed on teachers, comparisons were drawn with prevailing female aesthetic canons, considering both the nineteenth-century model of womanhood and the modern girl of the 1920s and 1930s. The study also interrogates the methods used to transmit the proper ways of walking, dressing, and grooming, particularly those that bypassed explicit explanation. The expectation that teachers should serve as examples and appear attractive was not only a moral requirement--reflecting the correspondence between exteriority and interiority--but also an aesthetic-sensitive mechanism of transmission. Abstract (Spanish): Este artículo explora al magisterio argentino entre 1880 y 1930 a través del prisma de la estética escolar, poniendo el foco en el aspecto físico, el vestuario y los modales, y profundizando en los modos de atribuir belleza a las maestras de escuela primaria. Para dar cuenta de las operaciones regulatorias que recaían sobre las docentes, se establecieron contrapuntos con los cánones estéticos femeninos vigentes, teniendo en cuenta tanto el modelo de mujer decimonónico como a la chica moderna de los años veinte y treinta. Además, se interrogaron las maneras de transmitir los modos correctos de andar, un mecanismo de transmisión estético-sensible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Portuguese): Este artigo explora o magistério argentino entre 1880 e 1930 a partir do prisma da estética escolar, com foco no aspecto físico, no vestuário e nos modos, aprofundando-se nas formas de atribuir beleza às professoras do ensino primário. Para dar conta das operações regulatórias que recaíam sobre as docentes, foram estabelecidos contrapontos com os cânones estéticos femininos vigentes, considerando tanto o modelo de mulher oitocentista quanto a moça moderna das décadas de 1920 e 1930. Além disso, investigaram-se as formas de transmitir os modos corretos de andar, vestir e se arrumar, destacando-se aquelas que prescindiam de explicações. Que as professoras se tornassem exemplos e fossem atraentes não era apenas um requisito de ordem moral -- que exibia a correspondência entre exterioridade e interioridade --, mas também um mecanismo de transmissão estético-sensível.
