Abstract: This paper introduces the NOMAD 2025 special issue, which focuses on the teaching and learning of mathematical modelling in the Nordic contexts. In order to situate and contextualise the contributions of this special issue, the paper begins with a brief overview of Nordic researchers' activities and roles within the broader international research community focused on mathematical modelling. The paper then provides a brief overview of previous mathematical modelling research published in NOMAD since 1993, before proceeding to discuss the contributions of this special issue. In addition to providing a brief summary of each paper, we analyse them in relation to their adopted theoretical frameworks, methodological approaches, and analytical strategies. The paper concludes with a discussion and outlook for future research avenues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
