| Abstract: | Participatory action research aligns well with the goals of colleges of education and the interests of student researchers, yet graduate students often face challenges in pursuing this approach that warrant additional support strategies. Using critical reflexivity as a guiding framework, the current paper presents a professional development module aimed at enhancing education doctoral students' critical reflexivity around initiating participatory research. We describe module materials grounded in the research literature and aligned to four objectives for participating students: (1) to understand how the inclusion of participants in participatory research differs from non-participatory forms of research, (2) to acknowledge how research questions are developed with co-researchers in participatory research, (3) to identify specific strategies for developing research questions within a participatory research collective, and (4) to reflect upon positionality, partnership goals, and logistical challenges when deciding to do participatory research. We connect module materials to the theoretical and empirical literature on participatory action research. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of connections between module materials and critical reflexivity typologies alongside lessons learned and implications for research training in colleges of education.
