Abstract: This article focuses on University Social Responsibility (USR) in Taiwan, a government-mandated framework that integrates social responsibility into higher education institutions (HEIs) to promote local engagement, sustainable development, and societal wellbeing. USR advances three core dimensions: establishing long-term university–community partnerships, embedding social responsibility into curricula to cultivate civic-minded talent, and constructing knowledge co-creation platforms that foster collaborative innovation with societal stakeholders. The article highlights examples from four Taiwanese universities demonstrating how USR initiatives address regional challenges through interdisciplinary, community-based projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also discusses challenges in institutionalizing USR and emphasizes its role in enhancing both local impact and global visibility for Taiwanese higher education. [Extracted from the article]
