Abstract: The article presents a survey of an University grant program in American colleges. Such program may be defined as an organized effort designed to stimulate the alumni and other friends of a college or university to make provision, in the disposition of their estates, for the support of the institution and the promotion of its service to society. This survey of American colleges and universities reveals that there are at the present time at least thirty institutions that have formal bequest programs in operation, and many more that have similar undertakings in contemplation. Various colleges attempts to cultivate these will-ful giving programs being made by administrative officers, trustees and other officials. This type of fund raising programs depends upon the local situation and the personalities concerned, both in launching the scheme and in determining whether it shall function under the trustees, the administration of the college, the general alumni association, or some other appropriate group.
