| Abstract: |
The article reviews three AI-powered chatbots—Grok (developed by xAI, founded by Elon Musk), Copilot (by Microsoft, based on OpenAI’s Codex), and ChatGPT (OpenAI GPT-3.5)—focusing on their potential to enhance second language speaking skills. Each app offers distinct features: Grok provides multiple conversational tones, emotional engagement, and a "Grok Vision" camera feature; Copilot includes speed adjustment, sensitivity to explicit language, and its own camera vision; ChatGPT offers a transcription feature to aid comprehension but lacks tone variation and camera vision. While all three support speaking practice, none fully addresses all learner needs, and the review suggests their combined use alongside real-life communication for optimal language development. The authors caution against overreliance on AI, emphasizing its role as a supplementary tool rather than a replacement for face-to-face interaction. [Extracted from the article] |
