| Abstract: | This editorial focuses on the challenges faced by the Issues in Educational Research (IIER) journal in managing a growing volume of submissions, which has led to a declining acceptance rate projected at 8.9% for 2025 and increased editorial workload. To address these issues, IIER is exploring the commissioning of special issues managed largely by guest editors and reviewers, particularly targeting Southeast Asian contributors, as a step toward expanding academic publishing capacity and supporting underrepresented voices in the global south. Additionally, the editorial discusses IIER’s longstanding practice of verifying every reference citation to maintain quality and highlights emerging concerns about the inappropriate use of artificial intelligence (AI) in generating unverifiable or fabricated references, prompting plans for stricter reference checks and ongoing research into AI-related issues in academic publishing. The issue also notes contributions from authors in war-affected countries, reflecting IIER’s commitment to diverse and global perspectives. [Extracted from the article] |
