| Abstract: | Bullying involves harassing an individual to the point of causing them emotional distress and discomfort. Prolonged bullying can lead to psychological trauma and negatively impact social relations. An important aspect of being a classroom teacher involves teaching children not only how to address bullying but also to consider how our social interactions can reproduce exclusionary practices that make individuals vulnerable to bullying. Teaching students to be aware of the relation between social exclusion and bullying provides students with the capacity to reflect on relational dynamics and develop the vocabulary to advocate for themselves and contribute to the development of an accepting and inclusive community. Using narrative autoethnography, the author explores how the unique multimodal features of comics provide the means for a thoughtprovoking investigation into the role of social exclusion in bullying culture. The study also demonstrates how comic writing can facilitate a space for reflection, perspective-taking, and empathy-building to support professional development and personal growth.
