Abstract (English): This article addresses the changes and transformations that have occurred in global financial markets in recent years, thanks to the incorporation of emerging technologies into financial transactions. It specifically analyzes the case of cryptocurrencies, their origin, operating mechanisms, and influence on international financial markets, their recent incorporation into Ecuadorian legal regulations, and the country's existing regulations for their use and implementation. This research approach uses a qualitative approach, with an exploratory and descriptive scope, and uses a bibliographic review of scientific articles and specialized books on the subject, published in the last five years. It concludes that both cryptocurrencies and other emerging technologies have contributed to a redefinition of the way commercial transactions and investments are carried out, driving highly dynamic and complex processes. Abstract (Spanish): Se aborda el tema de los cambios y transformaciones que se han generado en los mercados financieros a nivel global, en los últimos años, gracias a la incorporación de las tecnologías emergentes en las transacciones financieras, se analiza en particular el caso de las criptomonedas, su origen, mecanismos de funcionamiento, e influencia en los mercados financieros internacionales, su reciente incorporación a la normativa legal de Ecuador y las regulaciones existentes en el país para su uso e implementación. Se trata de una investigación de enfoque cualitativo, con un alcance exploratorio y descriptivo, en la que se aplicó como técnica la revisión bibliográfica de artículos científicos y libros especializados en la temática abordada, publicados en los últimos 5 años. Se llega a la conclusión de que tanto las criptomonedas como otras tecnologías emergentes, han contribuido a determinar una redefinición en la forma en la que se realizan las transacciones comerciales y las inversiones, impulsando procesos con un alto grado de dinamismo y complejidad.
