Abstract (English): This work, situated within the genre of the academic book review, introduces Associate Professor İnci Aras's comprehensive scholarly monograph The Image of the Femme Fatale in Literature. In this study, Aras offers an in-depth analysis of the image and representations of women in world literature, with particular emphasis on the figure of the femme fatale. The book is structured into the following chapters: "Feminism and Feminist Literary Criticism," "The Image of Women in Literature," "The Image of the Femme Fatale in Literature," "The Image of the Femme Fatale in Safa's Novel Canan," "The Image of the Femme Fatale in Mann's Novel The Blue Angel," "The Image of the Femme Fatale in Zola's Novel Nana," and "Canan, The Blue Angel and Nana through the Lens of the Femme Fatale Image." Drawing on an exceptionally rich bibliography, Aras examines the multi-layered semantic structure of the image of women--and of the femme fatale in particular--across different periods, geographies, cultures, literatures, and languages, adopting an interdisciplinary and comparative approach. First, she demonstrates how the image of the femme fatale has been constructed and stylized in world literature from historical, socio-political, artistic, cultural, and literary perspectives, and how it has been represented in different textual forms. The central contribution of Aras's research lies in her attempt to remove the femme fatale from the dark, restrictive frame imposed by the patriarchal gaze (a gesture also reflected in the book's cover design) and to reconceptualize her as a Janus-faced figure that unites darkness and light, thereby revealing not only her destructive potential but also her creative and transformative capacities. Aras advances this argument through an eclectic and pluralistic reading model developed specifically for her subject, synthesizing (post)feminist criticism with Derrida's strategy of deconstruction and Jungian archetypal criticism. Abstract (Turkish): Kitap tanıtımı kategorisine giren bu çalışma, Doç Dr. İnci Aras'ın Edebiyatta Femme Fatale İmgesi (2025) başlıklı geniş çaplı bilimsel araştırma kitabı tanıtılmaktadır. İnci Aras, dünya edebiyatında kadın imgesinin ve temsillerinin, özellikle de odak noktasına aldığı "femme fatale" figürünün derinlikli bir analizini yapmıştır. Araştırma kitabı, toplamda şu yedi bölümden oluşmaktadır: Feminizim ve Feminist Edebiyat Eleştirisi, Edebiyatta Kadın İmgesi, Edebiyatta Femme Fatale İmgesi, Safa'nın Canan Romanında Femme Fatale İmgesi, Mann'ın Mavi Melek Romanında Femme Fatale İmgesi, Zola'nın Nana Romanında Femme Fatale İmgesi, Femme Fatale İmgesi Ekseninde Canan, Mavi Melek ve Nana. Aras son derece zengin bir kaynakçayla hazırladığı bu çalışmasında, düny anın farklı çağlarında, coğrafyalarında, kültürlerinde, edebiyatlarında ve dillerinde genelde kadın imgesi ve spesifik olarak femme fatale imgesinin çokkatmanlı semantik yapısını disiplinlerarası bir karşılaştırmalı yaklaşımla incelenmiştir. İlkin kadının, ardından femme fatale imgesinin dünya edebiyatında tarihsel, sosyopolitik, sanatsal, kültürel ve yazınsal açıdan nasıl kurgulanıp imgeselleştirildiğini, farklı türden metinlerdeki temsil biçimlerini açığa çıkarmıştır. Aras'ın araştırmasını özgün kılan en temel unsur; femme fatale'i patriyarkal bakışın sabitleyip hapsettiği karanlık çerçeveden çıkarıp (çalışmanın kapağından da anlaşıldığı gibi) onu karanlık ve aydınlığı buluşturup bütünleyen Janus yüzlü bir imge olarak ele alması ve ondaki yıkım gücü kadar yaratıcı ve dönüştürücü potansiyelleri de açığa çıkarmasıdır. Aras bunu araştırma nesnesine özel olarak geliştirdiği; (post)feminist eleştiriyi, Derrida'nın yapıbozum stratejisi ve Jung'un arketipik eleştirisiyle sentezleyen eklektik bir çoğul okuma modeliyle ortaya koymuştur.
