| Abstract: |
Gender-based violence (GBV) and sexual harm have long been an area of focus and concern within higher education institutions in Australia. The National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence is expected to mark a new era for the sector, moving beyond recommendations to regulatory compliance, including the importance of, and requirement for, a whole-of-organisation approach (Department of Education, 2025). This paper details Monash University's commitment and evolving progression towards a whole-of-institution approach since the release of the Change the Course report in 2017 (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2017), highlighting key lessons and challenges, and outlining opportunities for the sector in this new chapter.
