Abstract (English): Self‐regulated learning (SRL) as a key predictor of language learning has been widely studied, but few studies have examined it from a cross‐linguistic perspective. The present study investigated whether first language (L1) SRL strategy use transfers to second language (L2) SRL strategy use and the conditions under which this transfer occurs, focusing on the moderating role of L2 motivation and exposure. The sample included 640 Chinese‐native‐speaking children from two Chinese‐English bilingual primary schools in mainland China. Using latent moderated structural equation modeling (LMS) analysis, we found significant positive transfer of SRL strategy use from the L1 to the L2. Besides, L2 motivation enhanced the transfer, while L2 exposure did not show a significant moderating effect. These findings extend the linguistic interdependence hypothesis to SRL strategy use and contribute to understanding the conditions for cross‐linguistic transfer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
