Abstract: Introduction. The objective of the study was to determine whether emotional dependence and self-esteem predict psychological well-being in Peruvian university students. Método. A predictive and cross-sectional design study was developed. 465 university students from the city of Tarapoto volunteered, of which 252 (54,2%) were males, whose ages ranged from 17 to 37 years old (M = 21,26 and DS = 2,90). For the measurement of the variables, the emotional dependence scale of Lemos and Londoño, validated by Ventura and Caycho, was used (2016); Rosenberg SelfEsteem Scale (EAR) and the (2018) and Psychological Well-Being Scale (BIEPS-A). Results. The results show that emotional dependence and self-esteem significantly predict psychological well-being (χ² (50) = 180.1, p < .001, CFI = .934, RMSEA = .079, SRMR = .072). Discussion and conclusions. It is concluded that self-esteem significantly predicts psychological well-being, while emotional dependence exerts a negative effect, although of a lesser degree and without statistical significance, in university students from the city of Tarapoto, Peru.
