Abstract (English): This paper explores the role of paradoxes and thought experiments in the history of physics, high-lighting their impact on the development of scientific theories. Based on the analysis of a book by philosopher of physics Marco Sanchioni, it proposes a non-linear reading of the discipline. Through the examination of historically significant cases, such as Olbers’ paradox, the reversibility paradox, Ampère’s paradox, and those emerging in special and general relativity, the study shows how conceptual conflicts and contradictions have fostered the advancement and refinement of scientific theories. This analysis also emphasizes their heuristic value and didactic potential in promoting critical thinking and understanding of the scientific method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Italian): L’articolo esplora il ruolo dei paradossi e degli esperimenti mentali nella storia della fisica, evidenziando il loro impatto sull’evoluzione delle teorie scientifiche. Partendo dall’analisi di un libro del filosofo della fisica Marco Sanchioni, si propone una rilettura non lineare della fisica. Esaminando casi storicamente rilevanti come i paradossi di Olbers, della reversibilità, di Ampère e quelli emergenti nelle teorie della relatività ristretta e generale, si mostra come conflitti concettuali e contraddizioni abbiano favorito lo sviluppo o il perfezionamento delle teorie fisiche. L’analisi evidenzia il valore euristico dei paradossi e il loro potenziale didattico nello sviluppo del pensiero critico e della comprensione del metodo scientifico. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
