| Abstract: | Enter This research explores the theme of commitment in literature through a comparative study of two of the most celebrated poems of the 20th century, both centered on the city in the face of war. The first text, entitled "Barbara," is by the French poet Jacques Prévert and depicts the city of Brest during the Second World War. The second, translated from Spanish and entitled "I Explain Certain Things," is by the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda and bears witness to the devastation that befell the Spanish capital, Madrid, during the Civil War. Our comparative study examines the similarities and differences between the two poems by analyzing the historical context of their production, their themes, and influencing factors, where applicable.
