| Abstract: | Join us for an engaging, student-guided exploration of ecosystems that puts our learners at the center of the discussion! This lesson is a favorite because it creates a vibrant space for students to express their ideas and deepen their understanding of ecosystems. With multiple opportunities for sketching, writing, discussion, and movement, students actively participate in whole-class note-taking drawn from nonfiction passages while navigating the trophic levels. By adapting familiar activities to include local organisms that students might recognize from their own explorations outside of school, we enhance their connection to the content. This approach not only nurtures student voice but also empowers them to take ownership of their learning journey, fostering a dynamic classroom environment where every idea matters.
