Abstract: Using Bookji, a social media platform, researchers conducted a research study involving two school librarians and their 7th and 8th grade students (ages 12-14) at two suburban schools in New Jersey in the United States. The study focused on reading motivation, reading engagement, school library usage, students’ social-emotional connection to their reading experiences using emojis, and the influence of geographic awareness on student engagement in reading. Findings showed that Bookji increased students’ motivation and engagement in reading, deepened their emotional connection to books, and encouraged them to explore stories set in different parts of the world. Overall, Bookji fostered a supportive and social online peer-to-peer reading culture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
