| Abstract: | Authors consider ways in which social work educators can foster cultural humility in the classroom surrounding gender diversity. Intentional transgender content was added to an undergraduate human behavior and social environment class. An analysis was completed on students' written reflections in response to the reading of an essay written by a transgender author (about trans love). In addition, educator's autoethnographic reflections were selected to give insight into barriers faced by the instructor of the class. A small team of trans advocates read through this initial analysis to offer current cultural context to guide understanding of transgender inclusive social work. The classroom is a space of representation, and the choice of narratives used in the classroom can support improved inclusion for the transgender community. The use of complex transgender representation not only teaches about the obstacles faced by trans individuals but also about what it means to live a healthy life outside of gender norms.
