This editorial introduces the June 2026 edition of *Widening Participation and Lifelong Learning*, which focuses on diverse research addressing inequalities and support mechanisms in higher education (HE). Key topics include barriers faced by under-represented groups such as working-class young men, Black postgraduate research students, and medical students encountering micro-aggressions, as well as initiatives like outreach programs, wellbeing integration in curricula, and relational mentoring. The edition also highlights the critical roles of HE mental health advisors and the need for digital skills development among staff to foster inclusivity, including considerations of generative artificial intelligence.
