| Abstract (English): | The purpose of this article is to present the results of a study on the educational advances and challenges in rural school education, as expressed by mothers and fathers from the Mapuche community in Chile. It frames itself within theoretical foundations grounded in a qualitative approach with a descriptive scope; semi-structured interviews were used to gather information, while data analysis was carried out through a process of open and axial coding, which enabled the generation of emerging analytical categories based on the participants' narratives. The results highlight the need to improve the family-school relationship to strengthen teaching and learning processes, with a focus on a sense of social, cultural, and territorial belonging. The discussion focuses on the urgent need for public policies to address the educational needs of rural school systems, thereby ensuring educational equity between rural and urban populations to reduce the inequalities and social injustice that have affected rural communities.
