Abstract: The university system is undergoing a generational shift and must prepare to provide mandatory training for novice academic staff. This study analysed support strategies through a case study, including interviews with 40 novice academics and a discussion group with development unit members. The results indicate that support is most effective when transferable to individual contexts and when multiple institutional levels, such as departments or centres, are involved. Based on these findings, 10 recommendations were proposed to guide institutions in providing effective support. One key recommendation highlights the need for a cultural shift in academia, alongside training, information, and guidance for novice academic staff. These recommendations are applicable to any higher education institution seeking to enhance the professional development of its new academic members. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
