| Abstract: | This study attempts to evaluate the performance of 15 mentally retarded children on the TMI-Grolier Time Telling Program presented on a teaching machine. The experimental design was pretest, training, posttest. Results indicated an increase in gain scores which ranged from two to 11 on the posttest for all subjects. Little relationship was evident between the gain scores on time telling and achievement or IQ. The findings suggested that mentally retarded subjects can profit from a teaching machine program written for normal children. The primary advantage seemed to be in rapid determination of problems involved in learning the task. Perceptual ability may be a factor in successful performance of subjects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
