Abstract: The article reports on the results of interviews with 44 moderately and mildly retarded to determine their leisure activities. The study compared retarded and non-retarded adults from the general population who were matched for age and amount of schooling completed. The study showed that the retarded adults went out in evenings and engaged in social visiting significantly less frequently than did the general population. The study concludes that even retarded adults who grow up in the community need help and encouragement to promote successful social integration.
