| Abstract: | The article presents the concept of patriotism from the perspective of a Canadian citizen. The author states that Canadian philosopher John Ralston Saul characterizes Canadian nationalism as the compromise between the three founding peoples: French, English and First Nations. Canada is proud to be a diverse society that has welcomed more immigrants than any other western nation. School curricula for history and social studies have included objectives for citizenship training that emphasize understanding through debate rather than patriotism. |
