| Abstract: | The author defends his book "The Shame of the Nation" against a reply from Robert E. Slavin, a designer of the Success for All reading program which Kozol criticizes in his book. Kozol points out factors that Slavin failed to mention, and argues that the rigid reading program neglects other areas of study, including social studies, natural science, art and other subjects. SFA is also criticized for aiming too low, as well as the teachers that support it. |
