Abstract: In this article, the author gathers together a wide range of theorists' published works in order to comprehensively explain rhetorical criticism as a discipline. She interacts with the texts of scholars such as Edwin Black, Charles Stewart, and Michel Foucault as she seeks to define the field and present its objectives. Methods of rhetorical criticism are also considered and explained through references to theorists' writings. Scholarly works are further drawn upon in order to explain the importance of choosing materials to be studied and critiqued. Additionally, the author presents a review of four textbooks marketed for the undergraduate study of rhetorical criticism.
