Abstract: The article presents information on coordinating events at a public library. The author suggests that the most important question to ask when considering a particular speaker, entertainer, or program is how it will benefit the community. Deciding who should be engaged to speak at a public library is a difficult task for which the author presents guidelines which consider the political and social implications of a given topic to be addressed, and the issue of honoraria, particularly when engaging a popular author to speak at the library.
