| Abstract: | The article provides an authors' response to comments by Joseph Maxwell concerning the article "Scholars Before Researchers: On the Centrality of the Dissertation Literature Review in Research Preparation," from the August/September 2005 issue, by David N. Boote and Penny Beile. The authors respond to critiques of the concept of "literature review" in doctoral research. The authors argue that the criticisms of Maxwell are related to divergent opinions on the nature, structure, and purpose of doctoral programs in education. |
