| Abstract: | The article focuses on issues for scholars of Middle Eastern studies and the democratization of the Islamic world. The author argues that Muslims see the U.S. import of democracy in the Middle East as hypocritical and based on a desire to occupy oil-rich land. It is suggested that the fostering of democracy in Arab lands will advance through economic, cultural, and non-military interactions between Westerners and Muslims. |
