| Abstract: | The article focuses on algebra education in the U.S. It explains that it is important to begin educating students in elementary school about abstract concepts, such as algebra. The increased interest in algebra education may be a result of decreased student test scores on national and international tests. The significance of algebra in higher education is explored, and the training and certification of elementary school math teachers is discussed. Variables, word problems, and functions are examined as aspects of algebra education. |
