| Abstract: | The article discusses the results of a study, which examined the use of vocabulary self-selection instructional perspective with eighth grade students in a middle school in south central Texas. The study also involved the examination of the nature of their word choices and generated a framework that is based on their vocabulary selection. It then looks into how students have determined the important words to know, what to read and how to process it. Results have shown that students have the ability in self-selecting critical terms while reading an expository passage despite of reading ability. It also indicates that there was great variability in the word choices among the students. |
