Abstract (English): Information literacy has become a powerful concept for library and information science professionals. However, information literacy must take into account culture to meet the challenges of a global society. This paper argues that a new framework is needed to move the discussion of information literacy from a conceptual understanding to a model that identifies the influence of culture on how individuals think about and make meaning from information, and how they comprehend and use information. Pedagogy for a cultural model of information literacy grounded in constructivist learning theory is proposed for the LIS profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (French): La culture informationnelle est devenue un concept primordial pour les professionnels de la bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l'information. Cependant, la culture de l'information doit prendre en considération les acquis afin de pouvoir relever les défis d'une communauté mondiale. Cet article soutient qu'un nouveau cadre est nécessaire afin de transformer le débat sur la culture informationnelle, de la compréhension conceptuelle à un modèle qui identifie l'influence de la culture dans la manière dont les individus pensent et saisissent l'information, de même que dans la façon avec laquelle l'information est comprise et utilisée. Une pédagogie visant un modèle de la culture informationnelle basée sur la théorie de l'apprentissage constructiviste est proposée aux professionnels de BSI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
