Abstract: The article discusses topic related to the middle school's preparation of young people towards the life and work in 21sth century in the U.S. It highlights that growing efficiency in 21sth century skills should be the mission of middle schools and the outcome of middle grades education. It emphasizes that mastery of core academic subjects are very important, however, it is not accordingly enough credential for postsecondary education, workplace and citizenship readiness. According to Mary Jo Conery, assistant superintendent for 21st century learning in California, the vehemence on 21st century skills promotes learning by doing, talking, and processing in teams, problem solving, and extending the audience for learning.
