| Abstract: | The article discusses space utilization by universities and colleges in the United States. Because of a global economic recession in 2009 and rising energy prices, colleges must manage their space effectively in order to cut costs. The author examines the connection between college wealth and the amount of space available per person, pointing out that affluent colleges typically use their endowments to subsidize new buildings. Ways in which campuses can more effectively utilize their existing space are detailed. |
