Abstract:	An essay is presented in which the author comments on sociologist Emile Durkheim's works on society and education, as he tries to put up an interpretation of his works on pluralism, social change and autonomy. The author is of the opinion that in current pedagogic discussions, Durkheim's works have receded to a state of ignominy, where he has become a stock character. Durkheim, he says, is referred to, only when someone wants to put up an argument that education is not mere socialization.
