| Abstract: | Chapter 9 of the book "A Different View of Urban Schools: Civil Rights, Critical Race Theory and Unexplored Realities," by Kitty Kelly Epstein is presented. It discusses the contradictions in efforts to bring about educational justice and academic quality in the U.S., such as norm-referenced tests that allegedly prejudice poor students. It also critiques the federal education law No Child Left Behind passed in 2002. The author proposes to do away with norm-referenced tests which she claims are racist in their concept and structure. |
