Abstract: The article discusses incidents of thefts from libraries and other cultural institutions. At the Yale University library in 2005, a map expert was caught cutting rare maps out of books. In late 2004 at Transylvania University, four men assaulted a librarian and stole rare manuscripts and they are now serving time in prison. At Centre College, a book of U.S. Indian lithographs was stolen in 2000.
