Abstract: The article offers the author's insights on several artworks found at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), which were said to represent the colonial period that happened in Victoria and Tasmania. The author says that the Tasmanian Aborigines painting by Robert Dowling is known for its dark tones and shows that colonisation has no effect on the Aboriginal people. She mentions that the formal composition in the Mr Clark's Station, Deep Creek, near Keilor painting by Eugene von Guérard presents the colonists' desire to own the Victorian land by cultivating and ruling wild qualities. She adds that the painting The Pioneer by Frederick McCubbin demonstrates the developments that were created for civilisation and nationhood.
