| Abstract: | The article discusses security concerns related to the use of urban academic libraries by unaffiliated community users. The author examines the library of the Downtown Phoenix campus of Arizona State University (ASU), located in Phoenix, Arizona, and provides information on the construction of the campus, the library's staff, and the library's policies on the use of materials, computers, and databases by community members. He reports on the use of the library by homeless people, training which the staff has undergone in order to handle potential security problems, and a plan to relocate the service desk and public user space to better monitor public areas. |
