Abstract: The article discusses the abolition of the University of Wales due to controversies over its course validation system and elaborates on the implications of which for the British higher education sector. The validation of overseas courses abroad was highly profitable for the university. The role played by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) in regulating validation activities is tackled. It is said that the case of the university reflects a failure of the sector to protect its own reputation.
