Abstract: The article looks at the Dropout Prevention and Recovery Program at Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) in Newport News, Virginia designed to lower high school dropout rates. The program goals included intervention plans for middle school students at risk of dropping out, hiring high school graduation coaches, and an evening school program. The article states dropout rates greatly decreased during the period between 2008 and 2011 as a result of the initiative.
