Abstract (English): This article is part of an experimental study carried out in two sixth-grade classes of primary school at Alerce rural school during the first semester 2010. In order to improve students' reading comprehension levels, a pedagogic proposal centered on reading stories that represent the school community was implemented as part of a cultural and social pedagogy. A standardized test of reading comprehension was applied followed by a new test based on contextualized stories taken from the book Alerce, cuéntame tus cuentos. The general results of this study show that students are more interested in reading when the text responds to their contextual interests. Thus, students value their origins, life principles and affective bows with their community which, ultimately, facilitates the acquisition of significant learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Este trabajo forma parte de los resultados de una investigación experimental realizada en la Escuela Rural Alerce en dos cursos de Sexto Básico durante el primer semestre del año 2010. En ella se señala la práctica de una propuesta pedagógica centrada en la lectura de relatos representativos de una localidad como parte de la pedagogía cultural y social, con el objetivo de lograr mejoras en la comprensión lectora de los estudiantes de Educación Básica. En la metodología se cuenta con la aplicación de una prueba estandarizada de comprensión tectora y la aplicación de un nuevo diseño de evaluación para medir los ítemes de comprensión con narrativa pedagógica tomados del libro Alerce, Cuéntame tus Cuentos (Leal, 2009). Los resultados generales de la investigación permiten afirmar que los estudiantes se interesan en la lectura cuando corresponde a sus contextos de vida, permitiéndoles valorar sus raíces, rescatar los valores y crear lazos afectivos entre ellos y su comunidad, adquiriendo un aprendizaje significativo.
